Sick was a satirical-humor magazine published from 1960 to 1980, lasting 134 issues. Sick was created in 1960 by comic-book writer-artist Joe Simon, who also edited the title until the late 1960s. His son Jim Simon edited the magazine for several issues in 1976 to 1977. The magazine was published by Crestwood Publications until issue #62 (1968), when it was taken over by Hewfred Publications. Charlton Comics took over publishing the magazine in 1976 with issue #109. Sick 's original mascot was...

Long before the Internet escaped from the lab, connected the planet and redefined what it meant to use a computer there was a brave and pioneering band of computer users who spent their time, money and sanity setting up their home computers and phone lines to welcome anyone who called. By using a modem, anyone else who knew the phone number of these computers could connect to them, leave messages, send and recieve files.... and millions did. They called these places "Bulletin Board...

This collection is a compilation of underground/independently-released cassette tapes from the days when the audio cassette was the standard method of music sharing... generally the mid-eighties through early-nineties. The material represented includes tape experimentation, industrial, avant-garde, indy, rock, diy, subvertainment and auto-hypnotic materials. Much of this material defies category, and has therefore not been given one. The bulk of the tapes in this library were donated to the...

In 1998, Jason Scott, a child of the quickly-fading Bulletin Board System (BBS) era in computer communication, checked the then-seemingly-infinite World Wide Web to see what it had to say and show about these single-line online services he had used since the early 1980s. Shocked to find that very little had made it online, he assembled his personal collection of textfiles, archives and memorabilia and began a site called TEXTFILES.COM, intending it to be a living museum of the early days of the...

NEC's PC Engine was released in 1987 in Japan, and later in 1989 in North America as the TurboGrafx-16 Entertainment SuperSystem. The first entry in the fourth generation of gaming, the system competed with the popular Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, and Super Famicom/Super Nintendo. The PC-Engine was notable for its unique HuCard (Hudson Card) format, which placed games on cards approximately the thickness, and slightly longer than, a credit card. The first system to have a CD-ROM peripheral, the...

The SuperGrafx (スーパーグラフィックス?) is a video game console by NEC. It is an upgraded version of the PC Engine (known as the TurboGrafx-16 in North America), released exclusively in Japan, primarily in response to the Super Famicom (Super Nintendo Entertainment System outside of Japan) from Nintendo. Originally announced as the PC Engine 2, the machine was purported to be a true 16-bit system with improved graphics and audio capabilities over the original PC Engine. Expected to...

The Sega 32X was released year-end 1994 as an add-on component for the Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis game console. Designed to expand the lifespan of the aging Genesis console, the 32X sold poorly and was met with tepid market response, and discontinued in October 1995. It initially sold for $159. Installed in the Mega Drive/Genesis cartridge slot, 32X Game cartridges were then placed into the 32X expansion unit itself. Approximately thirty-five 32X Game cartridges were released. An additional...

WonderSwan (ワンダースワン Wandāsuwan?) was a line of handheld game consoles produced in Japan by Bandai between 1999 and 2003. It was developed by the late Gunpei Yokoi's company Koto and Bandai. The WonderSwan was made to compete with the Neo Geo Pocket Color and the market leader Nintendo's Game Boy Color (even though the developer for the WonderSwan, Gunpei Yokoi, developed the original Nintendo Game Boy). The original WonderSwan was later replaced by the WonderSwan Color; although...
